Teens

Teens, come through! Ready to expand your mind, take your skills to the next level, and meet fellow art lovers? Check out classes, paid internships, and free events.

This community is committed to representing marginalized voices within the arts, centering young people of color and LGBTQ+, working-class, and immigrant youth. As part of the Museum’s teen-led programming, you’ll help activate art to promote social justice and imagine new futures.

    Programs for teens

    Teen Nights

Come by the Museum on select Fridays throughout the year for art, activism, and good times at free events planned by your peers. No, really: The BkM Teens, a group of paid teen interns, create events featuring art-making, music, workshops, and more.

Performers, hit us up. The BkM Teens are always looking for talented young people to showcase their skills at these events.

    LGBTQ+ Teen Night

Each June, celebrate all things Pride in an affirming, joyful space during LGBTQ+ Teen Night. This annual event is planned by interns in the Museum’s InterseXtions: Gender and Sexuality program, which explores gender and sexuality in art through an activist lens.

    Teens: Studio Art Program

Experiment with different mediums, develop your skills, and hang with creatives like yourself in a semester-long class. Then show the world what you’ve got at a student exhibition.

    Paid internships

Interested in art education and museum careers? Want to try your hand at planning events grounded in art and activism? How about organizing programming for queer and trans youth? Get your foot in the museum door with a paid internship.

    Resources for teens

Real talk: Museums can feel unwelcoming to young people. Over the years, BkM Teens have created resources to make the whole experience more accessible. Think videos about artwork in the collection and themes relevant to our lives, a blog breaking down complex ideas about feminism and feminist art, and PDFs that explain things you see on museum walls, such as labels and accession numbers.
