In this paid internship, New York City LGBTQ+ teens explore gender and sexuality in art. You’ll also work together to organize Museum programming for other queer and trans youth.
Through thoughtful and exploratory activities, InterseXtions teens affirm the connection between art and identity while building meaningful connections with peers.
What you’ll be doing
Learn about LGBTQ+ social movements and artists working today
Meet educators, artists, and curators to learn about art and the Brooklyn Museum’s collections
Share readings and analyze issues of representation in art and media
Discuss topics such as feminism, sexuality, and social justice to make connections between art and the world
Create art expressing your own interpretation of these topics
Plan, organize, and promote a free, large-scale event for LGBTQ+ teens and allies
Connect with community organizations and emerging artists and performers
Build affirming, joyful community spaces for other queer and trans youth
Strengthen communication, collaboration, critical thinking, advocacy, time management, and media literacy skills
Compensation and eligibility
Get paid $16 per hour. Second-year InterseXtions members serve as leaders in the program and are paid $17 per hour. Work up to 75 hours for the year! MetroCards will be provided.
This program is open to all NYC teens ages 14–19 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, two-spirit, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, questioning, queer, intersex, and/or asexual.
Schedule
The next InterseXtions program takes place November 2024–June 2025. All participants must commit to the full work schedule:
Tuesdays: weekly meetings, 5–7 pm
Fridays and weekends: occasional teen staff events, field trips, and activities
