Give Me a Minute with Takashi Murakami | Part 2 of 2

Vincent van Gogh was inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige.

The renowned Impressionist, van Gogh, was an admirer of the use of color and the depiction of landscapes by Japanese printmakers. It led him to create several copies of Hiroshige’s work, including the Flowering Plum Orchard shown here.

In van Gogh’s copies, he replaced the black and grey of Hiroshige's tree trunk with red and blue tones. He also added the two orange borders with Japanese characters for a decorative and exotic effect.
