Give Me a Minute with Nico Williams
As a First Nations artist, Nico Williams’s work begins with his ancestors.
Nico Williams: Aaniin, I See Your Light transforms the Iris Cantor Plaza into a site of play and exploration! Drawing on artwork from the Arts of the Americas collection and Anishinaabe culture, the installation’s title begins with “Aaniin.”This greeting means both “hello” and “I see your light” to Anishinaabe community members, whose ancestral homelands are around the Great Lakes region of Canada and the United States.
Visit and interact with Williams’s prismatic beadwork designs and jingles on the walls surrounding the plaza all summer long. Don’t forget to head to the fifth floor to see original pieces from the series and visit Nico Williams: Aaniin, I See Your Light through October 2024.
Give Me a Minute is a series of conversations with artists, collaborators, staff, and other people integral to the exhibitions and programming offered at the Brooklyn Museum.
