Poetry Workshops: Monet and Venice
I See You Face to Face is a series of in-gallery writing workshops inspired by our current exhibitions and open to all experience levels. Honoring poetry’s place in the Brooklyn Museum’s history, the title comes from “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry” by Walt Whitman—who worked at the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library, the Museum’s predecessor. It speaks to the power of sharing space with artwork and fellow poets.
In December and January, join Brad Vogel, author of Find Me in the Feral Pockets and organizer of the NYC Poets Afloat Residencies, in a generative writing workshop inspired by Monet and Venice. Vogel draws a parallel between Brooklyn’s own Gowanus Canal and Venice’s storied waterways, providing prompts for your original writing. The workshops will begin with an overview of the exhibition by Lisa Small, Senior Curator of European Art.
Tickets to each workshop are $35 and include admission to Monet and Venice. Member tickets are $21. Not a Member? Join today!
The December and January workshops will consider the same artworks and offer the same generative writing prompts—choose the date that works best for you. Can’t make either one? Check out other upcoming poetry workshops. Purchase tickets to more than one for a $5 discount! Stay tuned for details about additional workshops on February 22 and March 22, 2026.
