Museum on Wheels: Coney Island

Saturday, July 12, 10 am–2 pm

    Head to Coney Island for City of Water Day, filled with engaging art activities cohosted by our new Museum on Wheels! Conceived in partnership with the Brooklyn community, this mobile museum can pull up anywhere in Brooklyn with touchable selections from our collection of teaching objects—plus plenty of fun. All ages are welcome to express your creativity and enjoy art-making, games, and giveaways.

    Free and open to the public. Space is limited for all art-making activities; first come, first served.

    In case of rain, this stop will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 13, 10 am–2 pm.

    This program is created in partnership with Coney Island Beautification Project, South Brooklyn Health, and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.

    Activities

    Art contest (10 am–12 pm)

    Transform waste containers into vibrant murals and compete for prizes in this contest cohosted by the Coney Island Beautification Project.

    Sunprint-making (12–2 pm)

    Experiment with cyanotypes to create vibrant sunprints! Use photosensitive paper, everyday materials, and sunlight to develop your own design.

    Sea creatures

    Embellish sea creatures to inhabit Oliver Jeffers: Life at Sea, an immersive installation at the Brooklyn Museum. Build a coral reef from recycled ocean plastic and imagine a future where environmental balance is restored.

    Touch tour

    Get hands-on! Use your sense of touch to discover artworks from our collection. Each 15-minute interactive demonstration accommodates up to 15 attendees.

    Games and play

    Grab some chalk, play a game of giant Jenga, or test your skills at cornhole! Plus, pop in for bubble demonstrations by BubbleMan Stephen Duncan.
