Fall into Art: A Family Celebration

Saturday, October 25, 11:30 am–4 pm

    Celebrate the season, including Día de los Muertos and Halloween, with a day of art-making, music, storytelling, and fun educational experiences. Families and visitors of all ages are invited to explore our fall exhibitions through workshops, tours, and activities that honor global traditions of creativity, memory, and connection.

    Through thematic tours, explore the Egyptian Book of the Dead and Mexican objects from the Brooklyn Museum’s collection. Offered in English and Spanish, these tours highlight how cultures across time have honored life, death, and remembrance.

    Alebrije masks

    Create vibrant alebrije masks inspired by Mexican folk art, using your imagination to dream up fantastical creatures.

    Calavera sugar cookies

    1st Floor

    Decorate calavera sugar cookies and take home your edible art. In this traditional practice rooted in Mexican artistry, sugar skulls are adorned with flowers, colors, and intricate patterns.

    Drop-in art-making: Life at Sea

    Take a deep dive into Oliver Jeffers:​ Life at Sea and help expand this underwater world.

    Stained-glass workshop

    Design translucent, light-catching artworks inspired by Claude Monet’s motifs. Use cellophane, sticky paper, and silhouettes to capture the glow of fall light. Purchase tickets to Monet and Venice separately.

    Textile frames workshop

    Create colorful patterned frames inspired by Seydou Keïta’s iconic studio backdrops. Made of fabric, your handmade frame will honor self-expression, cultural identity, and legacy.
