Curator-Led Member Tour: Consuelo Kanaga

Thursday, June 5, 6–7:30 pm

Members: Join us for a curator-led tour of Consuelo Kanaga: Catch the Spirit, which sheds light on this critical yet overlooked figure in modern photography. Drew Sawyer, Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art (formerly Phillip and Edith Leonian Curator of Photography, Brooklyn Museum), will guide guests through nearly 200 photographs, ephemera, and films that illuminate Kanaga’s six-decade career. From powerful portraits of Black Americans in the Jim Crow South to early modernist still lifes, this exhibition traces Kanaga’s profound ability to capture not just the eye, but also the spirit.
