Winter Concert: Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra

Saturday, December 6, 3–5 pm

As winter’s chill sets in, warm up with music by Antonín Dvořák and William Schuman, performed by the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra. Led by Music Director Dorothy Savitch, the orchestra returns to the Brooklyn Museum for an all-ages concert featuring Dvořák’s Symphony no. 9, “From the New World,” and Schuman’s “New England Triptych.”

Dvořák wrote “From the New World” in 1893, when he was director of the National Conservatory of Music of America here in New York City. Inspired by music of Black and Indigenous Americans, and suffused with harmonies and rhythms of Dvořák’s native Bohemia, the symphony is one of the most performed and beloved orchestral works.

Schuman drew inspiration for “New England Triptych” (1956) from three choral works by 18th-century composer William Billings, evoking the rugged patriotic atmosphere of America’s Revolutionary period.

Tickets are available through the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music at $25 for adults, $15 for ages 18 and under, and include Museum admission. Museum Members can request a code for 25% off adult tickets by emailing membership@brooklynmuseum.org with your full name and Member ID. Not a Member? Join today!
