Back-to-School Night: The Art in Sports

Explore the intersection of art and sports at this back-to-school night for teens, young adults, and their families. Join our BkM Teens and School Programs staff to consider how art and sports interact to build community and shape narratives. Enjoy a panel discussion with arts and sports professionals, art-making activities, pop-up talks, snacks, giveaways, and more!

  • 4–5:30 pm

    Outdoor Art-Making with BkM Teens
    Plaza, 1st Floor
    Drop by our outdoor plaza to join the teen Museum Apprentices in an art-making activity inspired by collection artworks. Bring the whole family to express your creativity.
  • 4:30–5:30 pm

    Teen Pop-Up Talks
    Galleries
    Visit the third, fourth, and fifth floors to learn about works in the Egyptian galleries, Decorative Arts and Design galleries, and Toward Joy: New Frameworks for American Art. These conversations are led by the Museum Apprentices and repeated every 15 minutes.
  • 4:30–7 pm

    Art-making and food
    Education Center or Lobby, 1st Floor
    Take your pick! Head to the lobby to enjoy snacks, work on a collage, and check out teen organizations around the city. Visit the Education Center to upcycle sneakers into planters with artist Monika Anne Cunningham (sessions at 4:30 pm and 5:15 pm; space is limited).
  • 6–7 pm

    Panel discussion and raffle
    Lobby, 1st Floor
    Close out the evening with a panel discussion on the intersection of art and sports with NHL player and artist Jacob Trouba, ESPN Films’ Tara Nadolny, and Ruth Jurgensen and Sabrina Greig of the NBA Foundation. Panelists will share their creative processes and inspirations in a powerful conversation moderated by BkM Teens. Plus, enter a raffle to win exciting prizes!
