Visitors from the D/deaf community are invited to experience Consuelo Kanaga: Catch the Spirit in an American Sign Language (ASL) tour, led by a Deaf teaching artist. After a brief meet-and-greet, this tour explores Kanaga’s powerful black-and-white photography, which utilizes modernist sensibilities to provoke thought and foster empathy. As she put it, “Most people try to be striking to catch the eye. I think the thing is not to catch the eye but the spirit.”
Free; registration is required.
This tour is designed for the d/Deaf community in ASL only, without voice interpretation. If you are an ASL student, email access@brooklynmuseum.org for more information about ASL student tours for those at level 3 or above.
